Caring for your community is an essential element of any business' strategic plan and Capital A Wealth Management is no exception. As a wealth management firm dedicated to ensuring that clients and their families are prepared for retirement, Capital A understood the value of investing in their local community. We knew immediately that Capital A was a company that treats others like family!
When Capital A teamed up with Curio412, we started the process of creating a custom community engagement strategy that aligned with the Charity & Community initiative of their strategic plan: to 1) make community engagement a recognized attribute of their culture and team and 2) engage in outreach events each year.
We knew that our strategy needed to incorporate elements of teamwork and local impact. From the start we identified the following criteria:
Geography: Enhancing community presence and visibility in local areas so that Capital A can better support the communities in which they operate.
Building Trust: Partnerships with established, trusted nonprofit organizations within the community in order to strengthen their commitment.
Impact Focus: Due to a passion for supporting children, the Capital A team identified a desire to support a mission with an aspect related to youth.
Outreach Type: Simple, engaging, and active environment in which to build their team.
Our goal was to help Capital A not only make our communities a better place but provide fun opportunities for their team to connect with the community, their clients, and each other. We identified multiple opportunities for community engagement that supported Capital A’s Charity & Community strategic initiative. All opportunities provided for either a full or half day of community service and on-site team building.
Ultimately, we decided to host a Basketball Scrimmage in partnership with the Special Olympics Three Rivers Region to support youth, build teamwork, and share in a love of sport. Special Olympics Three Rivers Region is a nonprofit organization that serves more than 4,000 athletes and partners in Allegheny and its surrounding counties. Their impact reaches far beyond the sphere of athletics transforming the lives of both athletes and volunteers.
On June 1st in the first event of its kind, members of Capital A played side by side with Special Olympics athletes at the Baierl Family YMCA. After introductions and warm ups, unified games brought Capital A staff and Special Olympics athletes together in equally mixed teams for a game of knock-out before the final scrimmage. Additional Capital A staff and family members of Special Olympics athletes excitedly cheered on the teams. Players were provided with co-branded t-shirts designed specifically for the occasion. After the games ended all enjoyed well-earned refreshments and camaraderie. Players described the games as awesome, fun, and a great way to build teamwork.
Unified games like this impact Special Olympics athletes through providing an environment in which they are included, accepted, and actively engaged in a caring community. The athletes were especially thrilled to have this opportunity to scrimmage and challenge their skills and a number of family members who came to cheer on the athletes asked to tag both organizations in social media posts to recognize the event. While the games were going on, multiple YMCA members commented on the t-shirts and asked about both organizations.
Before, during and after the event Curio412 coordinated logistics for the community engagement day including outreach to prospective nonprofit organizations, event planning/management, day-of event photography, and coordinating with selected nonprofit. We also supported Capital A’s communications efforts including internal email communications, website review and draft copy, graphic design of event-branded t-shirt, and public communications. Through intentional marketing, we worked to build visibility and brand awareness as a company that cares.
Through our work together, the Capital A team exhibited a culture of caring. While Curio412 managed logistics and supported communications, Capital A was able to do what they do best, treat others like family. There is nothing better than bringing two great organizations together to serve the local community and make a difference!
